First Look: Kabuto

16 July 2012  |

Recently we got our hands on a selection of gear from the new up and coming brand Kabuto. Here are some some first impressions.

The IXA-C is the Flagship Full face Model from Kabuto, It's the replica model of Greg Minnarrs current lid of choice. First impressions were of how good this helmet looks. It would definitely be at home on the world cup circuit. On handling it you feel how light this helmet really is, only a mere 956g. That's even lighter than both the Specialized Dissadent at 1001g and the Troy Lee Designs D3 at 1113g. It has all the usual features you would expect from this price bracket with fully removable padding and D ring to secure it. With  its good looks and build quality you would be mad to not consider it, especially when its only £290 rrp. You certainly get a lot of helmet for your money.

We had 2 models of gloves from the top end of the range the PRG-1 and PRG-2, basically the same glove in a full finger and fingerless variety. They look pretty good they both are made from a very breathable fabric, sit very low cut on the wrist and have a stretchy panel on the palm to give a really snug fit on your hands. On the negative side they were a little small size wise, so you would probably want to go one bigger than your normal and they don't feel like they would last forever. Overall they are both a reasonable pair of gloves.

The Regas is the XC helmet offering from Kabuto it features all you expect from a helmet in this field. Loads of ventilation to get airflow through to keep your head cool and an extremely comfortable cradle. It feels like when its sat on your head you would just forget about it even being there. The peak attachment was a little fiddly but stayed put once in place. The only other comment I have is that the chin strap was quite short so didn't leave a lot of extra tail to play with. Apart from that, it does what it says on the tin. A comfortable lightweight XC helmet.

Finally we had the PC-1 Bottle Cage. It's lightweight,  looks neat and tidy and comes in a variety of colours. It fits a sports bottle in comfortably and attaches to the frame of your bike by the standard two screw attachment. As bottle cages go this one ticks all the boxes.

Kabuto is sold in the UK by Global Racing Imports.
